Blog #1 Top Five Sources of News

While I know I need to improve my consumption of news, there are a few different ways I try to consume new information. My most frequent and most common source is through Spotify daily drives. While listening to my music every few songs, a news podcast will hit the highlights of what is being talked about in the headlines for that day. It also draws from a few different podcasts, as big as NPR, or even some smaller perspectives as well. I would recommend this because it comes from multiple different sources and perspectives as well as sharing national and global news. It is an easy way to incorporate it into your schedules, I put it on in the morning to start my day.

Secondly, I have the Associated Press app on my phone, where I receive daily notifications as news stories are developed and released. This gives me the option to go further in-depth into topics I might hear on Spotify. While news sources today almost always have a bias of some sort, I feel AP gives as close to a "neutral" perspective as possible. The articles focus on the facts and deliver them in a straight straightforward fashion.

LinkedIn is another source I will check almost weekly to stay connected to companies that I am interested in. This is where I focus more on industry news for businesses and technology updates. These sources are study updates, research trends, or changes in industries. Personally, I choose to as a school for my future and to stay current in my field.

Social Media, as controversial as this is as a news source, and you have to be careful on if the information you are receiving, I find that Instagram and TikTok share with me news that I might not hear from traditional news sources. These are more human pieces, whether it's human rights, the environment, or policy issues that are shared. While I encourage this source because it's typically from a younger more connected audience it has its drawbacks in credibility sometimes.

Apple News is incorporated into my morning and evening phone summaries, giving me that last chance to catch anything I might have missed that day. This is a source that I use the least, however, it offers convenience and many options to see stories from many different news companies in one spot.
